After completion of Carte Blanche’12 in a grand manner, we almost winded up the activities of CSMIT 2011-12. A meeting was conducted on March 29, 2012 to discuss and decide about “Team CSMIT 2012-13”.

As per the consensus from the meeting the following teams are proposed for next year.

Tech Team

Web Team

Public Relation Team

Event Managing Team

Robotics

Community Services

Design & Content Generation team

Student Facilitation Team

Also we discussed about the activities to be conducted next year and to start the selection process for next year’s team soon. Based on that we started registration from March 30.2012. The registration was done in two ways.

Onsite registration ( Issuing forms in PDA library & Co-operative store)

Online registration (For the first time we started online registration at http://membership.csmit.org)

This time we got a overwhelming response and registrations flooding down both online and offline. Especially, first years showed a lot of interest.

After we were done with registration, we conducted interview on April 12,2012. A lot of enthusiastic juniors from all three years attended the interview and the count raised above 100. They participated actively exposing themselves and giving us a lot of suggestions. Once we were done with the interview, we started scrutinizing the applications to select the right person for the right team. The process is about to completely and the new team will be announced within this week. All the very best for those who attended the interview. Keep your fingers crossed.

One of the most anticipated and successful event of this semester was Enigma. Enigma’10 which was celebrated as Enigma week this year was received by the students in a grand way. The response for the mobile quiz conducted every day is proof enough. Most of the prelims were conducted during the week itself leaving us with ample time to conduct the finals on the day of Enigma so that they don’t overlap and students have the time to attend all of them. We thank everybody involved in this event for making it a grand success.

CSMIT which has been actively promoting Free Software for several years wondered few months back – “Why the 1st year students are supposed to use Turbo C compiler for practising C? Is it not pathetic to use a very old compiler that does not conforms to ANSI C standards??”. Yes, it is. So we jumped into action ;-)

In the first meeting of CSMIT with the staff members of Computer Centre, we brought this issue and our proposal to use GCC for 1st semester itself was readily accepted, thanks to Ms.Catherine Bina, Head, Computer Centre :-) After first years entered into the college we came up with the issue again – this time just to remind. As the C programming starts after a few weeks according to the syllabus, we had to wait some more time.

In spite of the general hesitation with the mindset that GNU/Linux platform will not be user-friendly, our strong stand and continuous efforts made it possible at last, with the support from the Head. Yes, first semester FOC lab uses GCC for practising C programming! :-) As we strongly believed, the students didn’t find it any difficult or strange. In fact most of them were interested to get into something new. Very happy to feel the change!!

CSMIT will keep rocking forever!
